the reply was common sense,what calculations do you want?what part of my message exactly?
i have been asked invited to discuss the pros and conns of a three part wing and the posibility of using a self launching motor.
bucket of cold water,he he sure... do you think regenerative wind milling will give moor lift than drag?
get a hold of a toy prop...mesure the drag when it is spinning in the wind,then mesure the drag when it is in the same wind but not allowed to spin.....the wing area of a helicopter or guro copter is calculated by the size of the disc not the area of the blades.
its not his ideas he remembers hearing it in a forum or reading it some were,the cold water is for the idea...you can generate electriserty that way but when you go to give actual thrust back you loose 20% through the prop and a bit moor through heat and the initial drag penalty is generate is huge......ok so you sit in a 10 meter per second up thermal and you let it wind mill for however long it takes to charge your batteries...what the are you going to do with it on a 10 meter up day if you are already up? its nonsense..there is a very very well designed glider here...build it...lern from it...fly it.....then go modify it if you think you can do better.

you may be able to use a windmilling prop for glide path controll and discard the air brakes.after you run the idea by an aerodynamist.but i think you might find he will tell you that this will upset the airflow over the tail...the high centre of drag will pitch you up/stall you...your on landing approach so you are low...the aircraft will pitch nose down into the ground and your motor mount will brake at the base of the pole mount and hit you like a 20 kg sledge hammer with ninga swords spinning.

i dont know much about this side of things.
props are generally 80% eficient.
weight devided by glide ratio is a rough calculation for thrust required for level flight.
a large slow diameter prop seems better for low power.
folding prop joints get hammered by single cylender motors.
thats about all i got on this subject.
